The Centre for Biotechnology and Fine Chemistry (CBQF) hosts another session of its CBQF/LAE Research Seminar series, featuring Associate Professor Nina Mohorko from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Primorska, Slovenia.
Entitled “Nutrition, Brain Health and Healthy Ageing”, the seminar explores the close relationship between nutrition and brain health throughout human evolution. During the session, the researcher will discuss the main energy sources used by the brain, the mechanisms involved in regulating energy intake and body weight and the influence of nutrition on brain plasticity and the ageing process.
The Mediterranean diet is highlighted as a relevant example of a dietary pattern associated with the promotion of brain health and healthy ageing, illustrating the important role of nutrition in maintaining cognitive function throughout life.
Nina Mohorko holds a PhD in Medical Sciences from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ljubljana. She currently teaches Biochemistry and courses related to nutrition and metabolism at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Primorska.
Her research lies at the intersection of nutrition and metabolism, focusing primarily on the impact of diets and phytochemicals on the regulation of energy metabolism and related health outcomes. In recent years, her work has concentrated on investigating the relationship between dietary patterns and metabolic health.
